My Tips For Inspiring Artists & Creatives of Any Kind:

I believe if you are any kind of artist: a dancer, a painter, a singer or actor your mission is to share your unique art with others. Your have been given a gift from god, higher power or whatever you believe in, you have been given a gift for a reason, to share it and teach others through it. Inspire and learn from artists because artists inspire artists, then they inspire others and a ripple effect occurs. If you don’t share your art, someone else’s art will never come to life as you may have been that source of inspiration to ignite that fire in someone else to create something of their own.

A great tip for all dancers:

Please document your work though video. You don’t have to put these videos online. You can just keep them to yourself as your own personal dance diary. Documenting your dance journey does wonders. We really don’t realise how much we improve in a month or year. Documenting your journey for self reflection and looking at how much you have improved as a dancer helps with your confidence and also builds up a strong confidence performing in front of a camera as well.

Performing for yourself as well as being a performer for others or “an audience” is a balance. I’m guessing when you first started dance, you did it for fun, because you enjoyed it and did not care much about how you look when dancing. As a dancer starts to take dance more seriously, we tend to start to dance for the outcome and the end goal or performance. But when I get overwhelmed with dance, I like to go back to why I first started in the first place. I started because I had a passion and a love for simply just moving. This thought alone always brings me back to dance. So if you are reading this and feel like giving up on dance, please revert to why you started in the first place. Dance for yourself, move for yourself, play your favourite songs and jam out. Record this for memories or simply just be with no expectations.

A few months ago I performed a little dance performance as a part of Oxford Dance Forum Scrach Night at the Old Fire Station. I recommend to check out Oxford Dance Forum as they support the professional development for dance artists around Oxford. In this performance I explored what it’s like to pause in a moment in time with no expectations. Performances like this bring me back to why I started to dance in the first place. It really is a expression of where you are at that specific time in your life and a “moment in time”

It’s very real when you make someone feel a certain way, based on the dance performance you just performed. I want UKDANCEVISION to reflect that. Being able to listen to a song and to watch a dancer or performer execute dance moves that match the audio to the visual creates a strong impact. This is what UKDANCEVISION represents.

I think sometimes as an artist it feels very vulnerable to share such a close part of yourself or story with the world or to the public eye. I think now in society some artists hide their self expression to “fit in” or not be judged. But some of the most inspiring pieces of art that I have watched comes from those times of watching an artist fully in-brace everything they are. As I have been doing a little research on this, I have spoken to a few other dance artists. Some artists have quoted: “it’s so inspiring to see an artist put so much of themselves into a performance”.

The Reason I created UKDANCEVISION:

“I have always felt magic when creating and performing dance routines, choreography and dance videos. I want to share that magic with other artists and creatives and bring out the artist of anyone who takes our UKDANCEVISION classes or takes part in our dance opportunities. I think we should all be real and raw when expressing our creative. We all have a voice and being able to create this space for the dance community is a honour.

This creative safe space has been created as I wish my past self had this space to learn and grow as a dancer, artist and creative”.
